Riley McGree was reported as a ‘done deal’ on Monday afternoon by in the know journalist Scott Burns.
Fast forward to Wednesday morning and it appears Celtic might have just missed out on the player.
The story goes that Celtic had a greed a fee with US side Charlotte and the player was happy to sign for the Hoops after speaking with Ange.
Since then, Middlesbrough have returned for the player, apparently offered more cash for the midfielder plus a bigger wage.
The deal isn’t set in stone yet, however, McGree had a decision to make – career or cash?
There’s no doubting Riley could excel at Celtic under a boss who gave him his first international call-up for the Socceroos at a very young age.
But if he’s looking to make as much money as possible in the front end of his career then he’ll return to the championship where he spent a year and a half playing for Birmingham.
Our transfer window was going too smoothly, there was always going to be a bump along the way.
If the player chooses cash then there’s not much Celtic should be doing. We shouldn’t get into a bidding war with a Championship side and over inflating his price.
