Former Celtic striker Robbie Keane is preparing for a Europa League clash tomorrow night and has addressed a potential role as Hoops manager one day.

Keane currently manages Hungarian side Ferencváros, who host Rangers in the Europa League tomorrow night.

He won the Hungarian title in his first season and now has them sitting sixth in the Europa standings, winning three of their five games.

It’s early days into his management career, but that hasn’t stopped one journalist from asking him if he would ever take up the role as boss at Celtic.

It’s questionable timing given Wilfried Nancy was appointed as Hoops boss exactly a week ago from today and has been in the dugout just once.

In a video posted by Clyde 1 (ClydeSSB), Keane said:

“You can never say never in football, of course. I’m one of those guys who never think too far ahead, I can’t. I have to concentrate on what I do, because if you take your eye off the ball here and then you start losing games, you lose your job.

“Never say never, but at the moment I’m very, very happy here.”

The former Ireland striker joined Celtic in February 2010 on a short-term loan until the end of that season and was assigned the famous number seven shirt.

He scored 12 goals in 16 top-flight appearances before returning to Tottenham Hotspur.

The media have spent the last few days criticising Wilfried Nancy’s every move after he got off to a losing start, so it seems slightly disrespectful to immediately ask a manager of another club about taking over the reigns at the Hoops.

Celtic are also in action on Thursday night as they host Italian outfit Roma – a tough test for Nancy in his first European match in charge, but one he’ll relish.
