BRENDAN RODGERS hasn’t had much to say on his January signing since Jack Hendry came in but he has come out in support of his young player with the former Dundee man set to see some serious game time.

Ajer is out injured and Benkovic will likely miss Saturday’s game against Aberdeen which means it will be Hendry and Boyata at the back for the bhoys.

The defender has come in for some heavy criticism and some of it has been warranted with some below par performances.

The Celtic manager admits it has been a struggle for the defender to make the step up but he has full confidence in Hendry’s ability and his determination to become a better player.

“Jack Hendry has come into a huge club and seen the demands. He never shirks from it.

“He’s had some challenging games but he always puts himself out there. A great attitude and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop over the next few years.”

Hendry came in for over £1million in January and Celtic fans were hopeful he could make himself a first team regular but most of the game time he has seen thus far is down to injuries to other defenders.

It’s time to step up for young Hendry and his manager’s comments will have given him a boost.
