Brendan Rodgers has called for dialogue between the Celtic board and supporters in the hope of ending the protests that have dominated the early stages of the season.
Discontent among fans has shown no signs of easing, with silence demonstrations, banners, and boycotts continuing in response to frustrations over the summer transfer window, communication breakdowns, and the board’s leadership. Protests are planned again for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Braga, with supporters confirming they will remain silent for the first 29 minutes of the match to signify the 29 days without a reply to their open letter.
Rodgers, however, has urged both sides to engage constructively and work towards a resolution.
“But I suppose my message is, probably for the longer term, is that hopefully both parties can sit down and respect the differences and find a solution so that we can all pull together again,” he said to Celtic TV.
“Because that’s what’s always key here for Celtic. Until that happens, I need to manage the team to maximise what we can get out of the team. And knowing that the team will be very focused on getting the results that the club want.”
The manager has consistently emphasised that unity between players, supporters and the club’s leadership is vital to Celtic’s success.
With crunch games against Braga and Motherwell before the international break, Rodgers will hope performances on the pitch can at least provide a short-term lift while wider tensions remain unresolved.
The Supporters Collective have reminded the club that these protests are quite simple to end, but, so far, there doesn’t seem to be an effort from those in the boardroom to engage.
Hopefully, the silence doesn’t impact the players too much tomorrow night.
