We reported yesterday that Celtic had started dialogue with Manchester City about keeping Patrick Roberts for another season after this campaign.

Brendan Rodgers has now confirmed this is the case but is unsure what City have in mind for the talented youngster at this point.

“I want to work with talented players but it’s about what City see as the next stage of Patrick’s development.” said Rodgers.

“He seems to be really enjoying his time here and has grown really close with the squad.”

The manager might be referring to the bromance that Roberts and Tierney have struck up since the player joined last January. It would be a shame to split those bhoys up!

Rodgers also underlined the importance of Patrick Roberts to the Celtic squad and would love another season to help the Englishman develop.

“Patrick is very important for us, whether he starts or comes off the bench. His talent is there for all to see.

“There will be dialogue between now and the summer in terms of where he is at.”

Celtic are about to hit the ground running after a great winter break which seen the bhoys soak up the sun in Dubai as they prepared for the second half of the season which kicks off this Sunday at the Excelsior stadium against Albion Rovers.

That match is sold out.
