BRENDAN RODGERS could be set to have some very positive transfer news if rumours from down south are accurate.

Celtic summer target Nick Powell has told Wigan he will NOT be signing a new deal once his contract runs out in the summer paving a move away from the club.

It’s thought Celtic are one of the main clubs vying for the player’s signature and could make their move in January to get the midfielder at a cut price.

Powell was on Celtic’s target list as a replacement for the £7million man Stuart Armstrong who left for Southampton early on in the summer window but could not work out a deal to get their man.

Burnley and Brighton have reportedly made known their interest in the £5million rated player but it’s thought Celtic have jumped the queue.

If the bhoys can’t do a deal with Wigan in January then they could sing Nick on a pre-contract agreement and land him for nothing next summer.

The 24-year-old has played 11 Championship games for Wigan so far scoring four goals and assisting in as many.

The Wigan man would be a fantastic signing.
