Brendan Rodgers has said that he is “not worried” about the comments he made post-match on Sunday.
The Celtic manager had compared his current squad to a Honda Civic to last year’s “Ferrari” of a squad.
The reaction online was quite something, and fans were taken aback that such a media-savvy manager had said that.
The gaffer was in front of the press on Wednesday, ahead of Celtic’s Europa League match on Thursday.
The Scottish Champions are hosting Austrian side Sturm Graz on matchday three, with the Hoops still in search of their first three points in the league stages.
As quoted by Clyde 1 SSB, Rodgers said:
“Yes, listen, it’s something that I said at the time and I said it because I felt it. So I’ve got no regret now. But yes, I was based around the speed in our team.
“Clearly, it’s not the same as what we had last season. And I’m pretty sure both of those cars got a different speed. So that was the reference to that.
“Yes, I’m not really worried, to be honest. You can’t please everyone. I’m not going to start trying to do that now.
“So, the players know that I’m with them. I’ve always been with them.”
He was clearly angry and disappointed at full time, all Celtic fans were, but his comments almost passed the blame on to the players and the board.
But, in reality, it was Celtic’s slow and passive football that didn’t get on the scoresheet, and that’s on the manager.
Time and time again this season, Rodgers has said that he’s identified the problems and is looking to fix them, but here we are again in the same situation, another game without a goal and another bunch of points dropped.
Celtic travel to Hearts next week, with the potential to fall eight points behind.
