BRENDAN RODGERS told the media he spoke to John McGinn at length on Wednesday before the midfielder opted for Aston Villa.

The Irishman made the admission during his pre-match press conference as Celtic prepare to visit Tynecastle.

Rodgers was bitterly disappointed to miss out on the young Scottish international but showed his class when he spoke of the player and the conversation they had.

“It’s gone, so we move on.

“I spoke to John at length. He was already gone. It was just to wish him all the very best.

“It was a great move for him, but disappointment for us of course, especially when he is a lifelong Celtic supporter.

“He is a young man that I would like to see do well. He is very committed to his profession and a very good player. I wish him all the very best.“
