The news broke yesterday that Celtic were putting Costa Rican international right-back Cristian Gamboa through a medical at Ross Hall ahead of a move to Celtic Park.

This came a little from left field as so many eyes were focused on Celtic’s apparent pursuit of Andre Wisdom. The player came in under the radar and wasn’t picked up by many till he landed in Glasgow.

For people who don’t know much about the right back, his biggest attribute is his pace. This is no surprise to the fans who understand Brendan Rodgers philosophy. A solid core with the ability to counter in Europ is vital to his plan and that’s why Gamboa is the man for the job.

For the traditionalists out there, yes, he can defend too and has a bit of mean streak to him which is always good to see in a defender. During his time in the Norweigan league with Rosenborg the player was widely accepted as the best right back in the league, which I’m sure how much that counts for but it definitely means something.

The player was brought in by WBA in 2014 for a fee of around £2million but has found games hard to come by. We are getting a player that has not played a lot of first team football for two seasons which may affect him in his early days at Celtic.

It’s clear Rodgers does not rate Jank nor does he have the confidence in Lustig to stay fit or be the man to consistently run up and down the right flank during a hectic game.

We hope Cristian settles in well at Celtic Park and he can play his best football under us, at the age of 26 he has his best years ahead of him.

The outlay for the player is said to be around the £1million mark and he should be confirmed as early as this afternoon. The big question now has to be, are Celtic finished for the summer?
