The average fan won’t know much about Lee Congerton and what he’s done in his career so far. The man whose job is to find the very best talent available to Celtic has taken on similar roles in the UK and abroad.

His last job came at Sunderland as director of football, he also had spells at Liverpool, was the chief scout at Chelsea for a period working closely with the Celtic gaffer who at the time was Chelsea Reserve coach under Mourinho.

Lee was part of a failed experiment at Hamburg after leaving Chelsea where he linked up with another old Chelsea head in Frank Arnesen.

Sunderland fans are split on Lee’s contribution to the club while he was there but the Celtic manager rates him highly enough to give him such an important position in his new look Celtic set up.

The fact that this appointment was not rushed will be more comforting to fans who see this as a levelled and very well thought out approach by the club.

Lee is to get to work straight away as the club look to prepare for next season immediately.

We wish him all the best and hope he can find a few gems.
