Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that the team will rebound stronger following such a convincing defeat against Borussia Dortmund tonight.

The Irishman was also full of praise for Dortmund, who scored an incredible seven goals, showcasing that the German giants are once again contenders in this season’s Champions League.

Rodgers said: (BBC Sport),”We went in high in confidence. We felt we were in a really good place.

“We had to start much better than we did, as we gave away really cheap goals. And we got punished for loose bits of play and passes. They were ruthless in their finishing. It was incredible to see.

“It’s very difficult for us to get to that level. It’s a different level, with the greatest respect. We want to be more competitive, that’s what was disappointing from our perspective.

“My job is to go away and inspire the players again. We need to learn from it or we will get punished at this level.”

Celtic entered the match in excellent form, but that quickly unraveled just minutes in.

A troubling trend has emerged for the Bhoys in European away fixtures, where they often find themselves conceding clusters of goals in quick succession, regardless of who is managing or playing.

This pattern highlights the financial disparity between clubs like Dortmund and Celtic.

However, individual errors also played a significant role in the defeat, with only Kasper Schmeichel and Daizen Maeda earning any credit.

Very few players can leave the pitch feeling satisfied after such a disappointing performance, especially considering the excitement surrounding Celtic’s winning run leading up to the game.
