BRENDAN RODGERS has given his assessment of Sunday’s 1-0 win over Hamilton and declared he was happy to have a ‘World Cup’ level defender back in the team.

The Celtic manager brought Dedryk Boyata back into the fold after weeks of uncertainty and negative issues behind the scenes.

Boyata and his agent had been working their ticket out of Celtic Park but the boss had talks with the Belgian last week and the team seem to be behind him.

The defender grabbed the winner and Brendan Rodgers jokingly commented that it was probably in the stars.

“We are actually really pleased with the result. You really have to work the ball and have a high level of energy to get through it.

“We could have been cleaner in our finish but we didn’t give away many chances – solid defensively.”

Asked about Boyata’s performance, the Celtic manager said it was nice to see him get the goal.

“You could see in his performance, he looked like a World Cup centre-halff.

“It’s not been easy for him, it’s nice for him get the winner.

“We’re asking more of the other centre-halves, we want them to score. Dedryk is a real threat in the box.”

Celtic are still in the market for a defender and know if they get one in they can sell Dedryk before the window closes next week.

Right now, he remains a Celtic player.
