BRENDAN RODGERS could be set to give his squad a shake-up ahead of Friday’s game against St Mirren.

The Irishman added two new players to the squad just before the window closed, bringing both Youssef Mulumbu and Filip Benkovic.

While both were signed in time to play in the Glasgow Derby game a few weeks back, it was too early to throw either into a massive game.

Now the international break has given the manager a little space to catch his breath and assess his squad, it looks likely he will start to introduce his new stars as early as Friday.

Speaking about Filip Benkovic when he signed, Rodgers believes the big Croatian is ready to go straight into the team and can offer more than defending.

“Filip is 6ft 4in and is dominant, a number one centre half who can go and head it. He’s also strong in both boxes and that’s something we felt we needed to be better at. So he’ll come in and add to that.”

Benkovic did make the bench for the Glasgow Derby game.

It will be interesting to see if Mulumbu comes in at all for Friday – even as a substitute. The player has had no game time since leaving Kilmarnock in the summer and has been using a personal trainer to keep fit.

The Irishman is always very careful about fielding players when they are a bit rusty. Mulumbu is doing everything possible during this break to get up to speed.

  1. When Mulumbo is match fit (sic.) No disrepect to the big chap. He will be a welcome addition to the squad, until Celtic can find another Victor Wayanama to replace him. The rest of the squad are worth it.
