Reports today claim Brendan Rodgers is currently considering bringing former Celtic captain Stephen McManus home to the club to take on a backroom role with the Champions.

McManus was a product of the Celtic youth system back in the days before Lennoxtown and made his way from the unders to the first team, to eventually captaining the Celtic side.

During his time at the club, McManus picked up three league titles, two League Cups and a Scottish Cup.

Since retiring, the former defender took on a role at Motherwell working behind the scenes with young talent, and he remains in that job at the moment.

With Damien Duff coming in this week to assist the youth set up it looks like Rodgers wants a shake-up with regards to the coaching of potential future Parkhead stars. With so much talent in Celtic youth academy at the moment, it’s vital the club get the right people in to shape their future.

Having a guy that went from youth system to captaining the Celtic side could certainly be a bonus.

  1. Plastic Dick will feel at home and his wife and da-in-law, won’t have that far to travel to meet him at work. All boxes Tic’d then. God knows Stephen deserves this move. Hope Motherwell have replaced him.
