Not many of his team will be receiving praise this morning but Brendan Rodgers gave a shout out to one of his newest signings, even after a disappointing result.

The bhoys went down 3-1 in Austria after getting off to a top start within two minutes.

After that, the Celtic players were defending for their lives and in the second half, the floodgates opened.

Rodgers can’t take too many positives from the game but one of them is certainly Youssouf Mulumbu.

Having big boots to fill in Scott Brown’s absence, the former PSG and West Brom man looked the part and dug in for Celtic.

His first half performance, in particular, was fantastic. Even when Celtic were struggling he endeavoured to try and win the ball and dig his teammates out of a hole.

He was eventually substituted for Ryan Christie but he can be happy enough with his night’s work.

Speaking about the former Killie midfielder, Rodgers was clear:

“When Scott doesn’t play then, of course, it always takes away from the team.” told Celtic TV.

“But give credit to Mulumbu, I thought he did very well. He came in and worked hard. I thought he was excellent

“Scott’s obviously a big player, very important. But I thought Youssuf came in and did very well.”
