BRENDAN RODGERS was asked if his sie should have had a penalty on Thursday evening against Valencia, but the Celtic manager refused to pin any blame on the referee.

The Irishman pinpointed a few moments when there was a chance the referee could have pointed to the spot but in all fairness admitted he could see why they weren’t given.

Speaking about some of the incidents to CelticTV, Rodgers said:

“I looked at it. Forrest has obviously gone into the box and you’d take it if you get it but I can see maybe why the referee didn’t give it

“I looked at one in the second half with Odsonne just sort of on the edge of the box where he got blocked off up the side of the box.

“But I don’t think they were clear. “

That was a fair assessment of how things went on a night where Celtic failed to really turn up against Valencia who had a game plan and made things happen.

Brendan Rodgers did take a cheeky dig at Scottish referees and you could tell by his tone when he joked Celtic might have got a spot-kick if it was in the SPFL – “You’d maybe get them in Scotland.” Rodgers joked.

Celtic go into the second leg with a mountain to climb with nobody really giving Celtic any hope of progression given their poor away form in Europe.

The Bhoys need to go over to Spain and at least show no fear as they have nothing to lose.
