Former SPL chief Roger Mitchell has taken to social media to declare who he believes should be the next Celtic manager.

News broke this morning that Slaven Bilic had been sacked by West Brom and is now a free agent. This has given Mitchell cause to declare Slaven should be the next Celtic manager.

West Brom are second from bottom, but only three points away from climbing up to 16th.

Bilic, 52, signed a two-year contract when he took over at the The Hawthorns and guided them back into the Premier League on the final day of last season — finishing second and gaining automatic promotion.

Given expectations, there was nothing to suggest West Brom should get rid of the Croatian but they’ve decided to pull the trigger.

Bilic has been linked with a move to Celtic over the years but it’s never came about. Probably because Dermot Desmond knows very little of him. If Neil Lennon goes this season or even at the end of this term, you’d imagine he’d be on a short list if still available.

  1. Do me a favour. Robert Snodgrass tells the story of how on the day he signed for West Ham for a fee of about £10.2 million and after a decade in English football as an international player, Bilic shrugged his shoulders when he met him and said, ‘So, what position do you play? On the right or the left?’

Aye, that’s the guy who will really bring the best out of fringe players at a Scottish club.
