Sebastian Tounekti returned to Glasgow last week after Tunisia’s round of 16 exit from the Africa Cup of Nations, but the next time he reports for international duty, there could be a familiar face to Celtic fans waiting for him.
Ronny Deila, nearly a decade on from leaving Celtic, is reportedly in the frame to take over as Tunisia head coach.
The former Hoops manager is said to be in talks with the Tunisian FA, who are acting fast to replace Sami Trabelsi after the country’s early AFCON exit to Mali.
Journalist Rudy Galetti claims Deila has already held discussions with national team chiefs and is among several names being seriously considered for the job.
Deila has built up experience across Europe and the US since his time in Glasgow, and now looks poised for a first crack at international management.
He’s been successful since leaving Celtic, after a mixed spell in Glasgow. Some believe he was robbed of a treble, with a horrendous decision from the goal line assistant, and others simply believe he was never good enough to have the job.
Tounekti might find himself speaking to players like James Forrest and Callum McGregor about the manager who gave Kieran Tierney his Celtic debut in 2015.
