Livingston manager Gary Holt has warned his goalkeeper Liam Kelly about the pitfalls he could tun into this summer if he’s not careful amidst rumours of Celtic interest.

His number one has been linked with a move away from the club with reports suggesting he has a very small get out clause fee for clubs should they wish to exercise it.

Holt believes after leaving Ibrox in pursuit of first team football he should be wary of any advances from clubs who may only want him in as backup.

“I’ve always said that teams only want your good players,” Holt said. “So it shows what Liam is doing. But he is playing football and he has only played 30-odd games at this level.

“So it’s something Liam will have to weigh up as well. He has got to think about what’s best for his career.” he told RecordSport.

“He took the choice to come here because he wanted to play, so he will want to continue that. You don’t want to take a knock in your career by going somewhere maybe as a number two fighting for the number one.”

“You want boys who are willing to put themselves above the parapet and play men’s football.

“He could have stayed at Rangers. I’m sure other boys could stay at clubs and pick up money but not play, not have a career.

“If you come here you will get a chance to play football if you are good enough and want to work hard enough.

“Liam has done that but he knows he needs to keep doing that to improve.”

It stands to reason his manager would warn his player of what could lie ahead if he were to leave the club too soon. There’s logic in getting as much games in as possible before going elsewhere.

Liam has had a fine season and shut out Celtic at Parkhead back in April. There’s no doubt he’s a talented goalkeeper but Scott Bain has made the position his own in recent months and with Craig Gordon still at the club at this moment there’s very little he’d be able to do at Celtic.
