Midfield
Date of Birth: 22 Feb 1995
Debut: v St Johnstone 23 Jan 2016
Nationality: Scotland

The Highland-born Bhoy started his career with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, progressing through their youth ranks and making his competitive first-team debut in December 2013 as an 18-year-old. That came as a late substitute appearance in 1-0 loss in the Highlands against Celtic, who signed him in September 2015, though he was loaned back to Caley Thistle before officially joining the Scottish champions in January 2016.

In doing that, he also followed in the footsteps of his father, Charlie, who also played for the Hoops in the late 1980s as well as being a hero at Inverness CT.

The midfielder has shown an unrelenting drive in the pursuit of his dream.

His debut came as late substitute in a 3-1 win against St Johnstone at Paradise later that month and he scored his first goal for the Hoops on Trophy Day 2016 in a 7-0 win against Motherwell at Celtic Park.

The following season, Christie went out on loan to Aberdeen in January in a move which proved instrumental in helping further his career. He made a stellar start at Pittodrie and was named Aberdeen’s Young Player of the Year that season.

The breakthrough game for Christie for Celtic came in the League Cup semi-final against Hearts at Murrayfield in October 2018, when he came on at the start of the second half and had a hand in all three of Celtic’s goal, including scoring the pick of the bunch.

He went to score the winner in the League Cup final against Aberdeen to secure Celtic the first trophy in what would go on to become the Treble Treble season.

Following that breakthrough season, the classy midfielder has been almost ever-present in the side as well as becoming a regular with Scotland.

COUNTRY BHOY
Ryan Christie received his first Scotland cap in a friendly against the Netherlands in November 2017. His first competitive match for his country came in a 4-0 win in the Nations League against Albania the following year where he provided two assists. He followed that up three days later with another assist in Scotland’s 3-2 win over Israel and his debut goal came in Scotland’s 2-1 win over Cyprus in the European qualifiers. He began the 2021/22 season with 20 caps and four goals under his international belt. Christie also made the international news following his tearful and emotional interview when Scotland beat Serbia on penalties to qualify for Euro 2020 – it was his goal in the 1-1 draw that paved the way to Scotland’s first major tournament for over two decades.
