Ryan Christie underwent emergency surgery just hours after the Glasgow Derby defeat at the end of 2019. This sparked fears the player could miss a large chunk of games when the bhoys return to domestic action.

However, the player has flown out to Celtic’s training base in Dubai with the rest of the squad but he isn’t taking part in the sessions.

Providing an update, Celtic assistant manager John Kennedy gave good news on Ryan Christie’s injury but the way he is talking will see the player miss the first couple of games of 2020.

“He had a little setback, but he obviously had that dealt with quickly so hopefully it won’t keep him out for too long.” Kennedy told CelticTV.

“He will miss the bulk of the week here in Dubai, but hopefully once we get back he won’t miss too many games.

“It will be touch and go for the first game, but it will be weeks rather than months. Hopefully he will be okay”

If there’s any ideal time to get injured it’s probably after the winter shutdown. This means Ryan can recover knowing he won’t miss much game time.

Ryan has been one of Celtic’s top players this season and to have him out for any period of time would be a huge blow.

The great thing about this Celtic squad is there’s almost a capable back up in every position.

Tom Rogic could see action against Partick a Thistle when we return.
