There has been murmurings Celtic have made a play for soon to be free agent Ryan Fraser with the midfielder rejecting a fresh deal with Bournemouth.

Given he was the subject of much interest with top six sides in the Premier League last term, Celtic popping up as a potential destination has raised red flags.

SunSport are reporting today Celtic are ‘favourites’ to land Fraser but the article holds no concrete information or even a tenuous link between Ryan and Celtic. Instead they report he’s now the bookies favourite to head to Celtic.

Fraser was on £27kpw at Bournemouth according to Spotrac, and you have to imagine they really upped his contract offer to try and keep him at the club.

Celtic are cutting their cloth and bringing in a player on wages over £30kpw would seems something Peter Lawwell wouldn’t entertain. Unless he sees a market value for Fraser in two years or so.

Unless there’s concrete evidence of a Celtic approach, we’d file this one under nonsense for now.

  1. I would imagine money isn’t the reason Fraser wants out of Bournemouth. I’d hazard a guess that it’s more the fact they are likely to go down.
He’s a good player so I would think he fancies not being in a relegation battle every year. Perhaps he fancies challenging for trophies for once in his career. That said, I’d be surprised if Celtic could entice him up here in the current financial climate.
