Georgios Samaras confirmed he was leaving Celtic this afternoon after he signed off with a goal from the penalty spot in a 3-1 victory against Dundee United.

However, the Greek international let it be known that he is leaving because the club has failed to make him an offer.

“It was not the manager’s decision, it was people from on high. I never had an offer from the club. I never had an offer from Peter Lawwell. I’m leaving, that’s for sure, but the only thing I want to say is it was not my decision.” he said.

“I cannot lie to the people. I had a chat with the manager. He would have loved me to stay at the club.

“But me and the gaffer, we don’t make the decisions. There are people above us who make the decisions and they never approached”

Samaras has been an enigma during his time at Celtic Park but he has been a terrific servant for the club. If true, it is disappointing that the club has chosen to treat him in such a way especially if the manager would have liked to keep his services.

Who knows what will happen in the close season but if he is never to pull on those famous Hoops again then we wish Sammy all the best.
