SCOTT BROWN beloved Celtic should give the current number one goalkeeper Scott Bain a chance this season with Craig Gordon and Fraser Forster leaving the club. The nightmare scenario for Celtic fans unfolded when they let Craig go and shortly after Fraser went cold on a return.

Now Celtic only have Bain as an experienced first-team keeper and the club are looking to bring someone else in.

The Celtic captain believed Bain has all the attributes to do the job at Celtic and revealed the club should give him his chance instead of splashing the cash.

“We’d trust Bainy to do the business, definitely.” Brown told SunSport.

“He came in and was brilliant for us when he arrived. He was chucked in at the deep end at Ibrox.

“Dorus de Vries got injured the day before and Bainy went straight in and he saved us that day, to be honest.

“He kicked on from there and he was fantastic for us in that run-in — as he has been whenever he’s been asked to play.

“Bainy never lets anyone down and I’m sure he’ll step up if he plays this week, the next or whenever.

“It’s not like he lost his place.”

Not many Celtic fans will think this is the direct course of action to take and some will even believe Brown is trying to give the board and scouting staff an easy way out.

Celtic going into a historic season with just one first team goalkeeper who was considered second or third last term isn’t ideal. Bain is a good goalkeeper but can he be a difference-maker?

It looks like we might just find out at this rate.
