“You Never Know” – Scott Brown Addresses Celtic Coaching Return Rumours

Scott Brown has addressed rumours linking him with a return to Celtic as part of the club’s coaching staff.

The former Hoops captain was asked directly whether there was any truth in suggestions that he could have joined Robbie Keane’s Celtic backroom staff had the Irishman been appointed during the summer.

Brown did not confirm any talks and made it clear that there had been little contact with the club at that stage.

“I’ve not really spoken to Celtic at that point in time,” Brown said: (Open Goal).

However, the 41-year-old refused to completely close the door on a future return to Parkhead.

“You never know what happens in football. Football’s mental,” he added.

“You see people who have been out of football for five or six years and then go back in, so you never really know what’s going to be around the corner.”

Brown was also asked whether working as an assistant could appeal to him.

The former midfielder suggested that such a position would allow more of his personality to come through, while still giving him an important role within a coaching setup.

“That’s the one, mate, honestly, because you could actually show your personality,” Brown said.

“I enjoyed that part as well because it’s a persona, who you want to be. You can be that top guy, or you can have fun and have a bit of banter.

“You’re the same, I’m sure, being in there as an assistant, but I’m sure you’ve still got a switch that flips as well.”

The comments stop well short of confirming that Celtic approached Brown over a coaching role.

His answer instead suggests the summer rumours did not develop into serious discussions, at least from his side.

Brown’s connection with Celtic means his name will naturally come up whenever changes are made behind the scenes.

He remains one of the most influential captains of the club’s modern era and knows the demands at Parkhead better than most.

For now, though, there is no indication that a return is close.

Brown has left the possibility open for the future, but his most important admission was that he had not held meaningful talks with Celtic when the rumours first emerged.
