New Australian club have told record Sport they are closing in on Scott Brown as they prepare to build their squad for the summer.

Speaking to RecordSport Western Melbourne’s Maurice Bisetto, one of three backers behind their consortium, said: “We are pretty close with some players including a marquee. We are looking at a pre-season start in June, so things need to get moving.

“We think Scott Brown has a lot of positives and could make a significant contribution to a new club…as a leader on and off the field.

“There’s no doubt we could go for a bigger name, and that might get eyeballs and put bums on seats initially, but we are really focused on results and performance and the style of football we want to play.”

Scott is in the last six months of his current Celtic deal and has been offered the chance of big money in a brand new, warmer environment.

With the Celtic Captain’s influence seemingly diminished on the field over the first half of the season, is it time for a change.

Of course, until we get official word from the Celtic star, we can take anything said elsewhere with the slightest pinch of salt.

Brown has been at the club for over ten years and celebrated his testimonial season last year. There was an expectation at the start of the season the player’s newest contract was just a formality but that was before this current Aussie deal was on the table.

It would be a shame to see the midfielder go.
