SCOTT BROWN told the media yesterday the club are still in talks with Mikael Lustig over a potential new deal even though the Swede looks set to end up elsewhere.

Reports yesterday claimed the player was heading for a medical with Belgian side Gent ahead of a move and Lustig’s interview last week suggested he knew his days at Celtic Park looked numbered.

What the defender did say was, ‘never say never’ when it came to perhaps signing a new deal. Nothing is official at the moment and Scott Brown believes there’s still potential for a deal.

“Lustig has been phenomenal. The club and Mikael are still talking just now, so hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement.” Brown told CelticTV.

“We all love him in the dressing-room. The fans love him as well. Last season was the best football that I’ve seen him play, he’s just kicked on, he’s still playing for Sweden, he’s still got that hunger in his belly that he wants to thrive and win more trophies.”

Lustig’s contract ran out at the end of last season and the club chose not to activate the extra year of his deal with his wages being a problem. The Celtic Park board wanted to renegotiate his deal but it’s not quite going to plan. Lustig has options elsewhere and it looks more likely he won’t be at Celtic Park when all is said and done but Broony thinks there could be a chance.

  1. Nonsense Scott. If Lustig had a hope of signing he’d be training with you yesterday. Let’s just call it a day on the legend’s Celtic career. Besides if he hangs around Celtic will make do……again. Watch my lips. GO GET A DECENT RIGHT BACK CELTIC.
