After an illustrious career spanning over a decade at Celtic, where he became a legendary figure, Scott Brown made the decision to leave the Scottish giants with little hesitation.
In 2021, at the age of 36, Brown closed the chapter on his trophy-rich tenure at Celtic Park to embark on a new journey with Aberdeen as a player-coach under Stephen Glass, who had recently taken over from Derek McInnes.
Brown’s transition to Aberdeen, however, was short-lived and less than ideal, leading him to depart from Pittodrie after less than a season. His coaching career continued as he took on a role at Fleetwood Town before eventually landing at Ayr United in the Championship, where he aims to lead the team to promotion next season.
During a recent appearance on the Scottish Football podcast, Brown reflected on his departure from Celtic. He expressed that leaving was a straightforward choice. He admitted that he could’ve stayed at Celtic, though, he didn’t want to overstay his welcome.
He said: “There was no consideration for me, I was going. I was getting too old and fragile.
“If I wanted I could have probably have stayed and held on to me being a 36-year-old and trying to be ‘watch me I can still do this at the highest level’ but I didn’t want to disrespect the fans and say I am still captain of this club, will turn up, run about and watch me I can still do it when I knew deep down I couldn’t.”
