CHRIS Sutton has gone on a massive tirade about Scottish football self-inflicting wounds on itself because all clubs appear to be out for themselves.

The BT pundit blasted the clubs who voted against the SPFL proposal on Friday and made special mention of Dundee who now have a deciding vote but have chosen not to exercise that vote.

This leaves the proposal in tatters and The SPFL back at square one.

With clubs in dire need of money and clarity on this season as well as next, this proposal sorted out a lot of the uncertainty.

The only thing that I’d personally change about the proposal is not allowing relegation to happen, making it a larger season next term for one time only. That proposal would likely get over the line.

For Celtic, the position is still the same, if games can be played in a reasonable manner at some point in the near future then that’s their preference.

Sutton believe lower league clubs could hit the wall now after agenda-driven selfishness by some as he wrote in his RecordSport column.

Be clear here, who actually knows if we will be playing football again this year?

There is a chance that season 2020/21 might not actually kick-off until 2020 is over.

Yet people have ignored that fact because it doesn’t suit their own agenda.

Some clubs face being plunged into a financial abyss by the selfishness of others.

I cannot grasp the logic of keeping this season going other than the argument about getting all games played.

Of course, we all want that, but of course, we all didn’t want coronavirus to strike, either.

It’s happened. It’s time to think sensibly. Even if football does come back in August, there’s a big ripple effect. By the time the left over games will finish, you will be starting a new season in October at the very earliest. The league programme is going to be crammed into spaces where it can barely fit and the cup competitions could easily become miniscule versions of their usual formats.

Shoehorned into the midst of this will be internationals and European games for some of our clubs.

What happens with the money for the new TV deal if we get to December or into the New Year without having started season 2020-21? Are they really going to pay up for six months of an agreement which hasn’t been fulfilled.
