Sebastian Tounekti marked his first Celtic goal in style as the Hoops cruised to a 4-0 win over Partick Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final.
The Tunisian winger struck early in the second half, finishing confidently after linking up with Kelechi Iheanacho.
It was a moment Tounekti had been waiting for since his summer arrival, and the celebration with his teammates showed just how much it meant. The 23-year-old has quickly settled into life at Celtic, impressing on his debut at Kilmarnock and now getting off the mark with a goal in Glasgow’s West End.
Brendan Rodgers has already described Tounekti as a “real Celtic winger,” praising his pace, directness and ability to excite supporters. The player himself admits that freedom to express himself was one of the key reasons he wanted to join the club.

“Of course, it’s a nice word from the gaffer. For me, I feel like I’m really a confident player. I really like to play with lots of confidence. And the style, of course, is fitting me really well. One of the reasons why I wanted to come to Celtic, I feel like he gives me a lot of freedom on the wing.
“It’s been actually really easy because I have so good teammates and so good staff around the team. They’ve been taking me in so good from everyone. So, yeah, I’m just really happy to be here and to help the team to win games.
“No, I’m really looking forward to that. Also, one of the reasons why I wanted to come to Celtic is to play matches like this. Everyone wants to play in the Europa League. So, yeah, I’m just really looking forward to start the campaign and to go and play Europa League with Celtic.”
Tounekti’s early form has given supporters plenty of encouragement. Direct, confident, and always looking to create, he already looks like a player who can bring something different to Rodgers’ attack.
Celtic fans have a history of embracing wingers who play with flair, and Tounekti seems determined to follow in that tradition. His comments suggest he feels at home in the squad and is relishing the chance to play with freedom.
With a semi-final at Hampden now secured and a Europa League campaign about to begin, the timing of Tounekti’s first goal could not be better. For Celtic, it could be the start of something special.
