Former Celtic manager Ronny Deila has been sacked by MLS side Atlanta United after just one season in charge.
The Norwegian’s tenure ends after a disappointing campaign that saw Atlanta finish 14th, well outside the playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.

Deila’s dismissal comes at a time when speculation is swirling around his Celtic successor Brendan Rodgers, whose own future is under scrutiny following a dismal 2-0 defeat to Dundee. Pressure is mounting on Rodgers, and his recent interview with the BBC — not just BBC Scotland — is being seen by some as a subtle alert to clubs that he may soon be available.
And he’s also the second former Celtic manager to be sacked this weekend. Ange Postecoglou was made the shortest-serving EPL manager after he was given his books at Nottingham Forest.
Deila managed Celtic between 2014 and 2016, winning two Scottish Premiership titles and a League Cup. While his style and tenure divided opinion at the time, his contribution to laying the groundwork for Celtic’s later domestic dominance, including the push towards nine-in-a-row, is more widely recognised now. Many Celtic fans still argue that he was unfairly denied a treble due to some questionable refereeing decisions.
His exit from Atlanta now leaves him on the market once again, adding a familiar name to the list of available coaches. He’d managed to have a decent managerial career after leaving Celtic, and will probably find himself back in a job soo enough.
