Stevie Frail took a very inexperienced side to play a friendly against Cork City at the weekend. A game in which the Celtic XI won 2-0 against the Irish club BUT it was the squad rather than the result that was more interesting.

Among some more familiar youth names there was a young man by the name of Sergio Buenacasa who took to the field wearing the famous Hoops. Naturally this made me very curious to find out who he was and where has come from. After much digging round the internet (I googled his name) I found out that he is a 17 year old striker who currently plays for Barcelona B, that was pretty much ALL the information google was willing to offer me.

He has come on trial with Celtic for a a week but with no word from the club whether it’s just to have a look, or it’s with have a view to signing the young striker on a permanent basis. Whatever it may be this is certainly encouraging that behind the scenes at Celtic are striving to improve the youth setup mixing foreign players with home-grown talent.

Here is a youtube clip off the boy in action.

It may also be noted that there was another unfamiliar player in the starting line-up in the shape of goalkeeper Dan Twardzik. He is the older brother of Filip and Pattrik Twardizk who’ve already been involved in Celtic’s youth set up. He had a stint at Aberdeen before being released in the summer.
