Serie A club Monza appear to be assessing other defensive options as their pursuit for Celtic defender Josip Juranovic looks to be on hold [@FabrizioRomano].

The Italian side were reportedly interested in signing the Croatian international on an initial loan spell before being willing to spend £7 million on the former Legia Warsaw player.

That was way below what many Celtic fans had valued the 27-year-olds price tag at but there is other interests from other clubs and the Hoops may just be happy to bide their time until the right offer comes in as they are in no rush to sell Juranovic as he is contracted to the club until 2026.

This could also be the case for the player as there has been interest from English Premier League sides as well as La Liga clubs. It is likely that this could be his last big move during his career and he will want to make it count and may fancy a club with a bigger profile having impressed for his national side at the World Cup.

Monza are now in the running to sign Marseille fullback Pol Lirola who is currently out on loan at Elche. They would be looking to agree a similar sort of deal to the one proposed for Juranovic by taking the player on loan first.
