Michael Stewart has cast serious doubt over whether Brendan Rodgers will extend his contract at Celtic beyond the end of the season.
Rodgers, whose deal expires next summer, recently stated he would be open to staying if the “conditions were right.” However, Stewart believes the manager’s growing frustration with the club’s structure and lack of backing in the transfer market has made that scenario unrealistic.
The atmosphere around Celtic Park has become increasingly tense in recent weeks, with fan protests, questions over recruitment, and criticism of the board’s ambition. Stewart says that the mood within the club now feels flat, and that Rodgers, once eager to lead a rebuild, is now disillusioned by what he sees behind the scenes.
He said: (Scottish Football Social Club), “At the start of the season and the way things were, I genuinely thought that had things worked out well, I think he’d have been open to staying.
“But the way things have panned out, I don’t think there’s any chance.
“I do think that the way he is at the moment, the way the club are being run and the way he’s now understandably underwhelmed with it all, I think it’s a very, very dangerous situation for Celtic to be in.
“You’ve got all of this campaign where it just feels like they are treading water a little bit.
“There’s no real dynamism and that’s dangerous.”
Stewart’s assessment reflects growing unease about Celtic’s direction under the current board. While Rodgers has remained professional in public, his repeated comments about missing “firepower” and “speed” have been read as subtle criticism of the lack of investment in key areas of the squad.
The prospect of losing Rodgers for a second time would be a major blow for the club, particularly given the uncertainty already surrounding recruitment, fan relations, and on-field performance.
Stewart’s comments suggest that unless there is a major shift in approach from the board, Celtic could be facing another managerial change before next season.
For now, Rodgers continues to front up, insisting he’s focused on improving performances and finding solutions within the current squad.
But as pressure builds and key decisions loom, it’s becoming harder to ignore the growing sense that Celtic’s manager may not see a long-term future at Parkhead.

I for one couldn’t care less if he stays or not, his style of football and his tactics are pathetic.
He constantly plays players who are well off it and doesn’t give young players and the fringe ones enough game time.
I doubt very much if we will win anything this season under Rodgers and his band of coaches that are on a par with the Board as no one knows what they do.

Between Rodgers and the most childish so-called fans in British football, they are trying their very best to destroy our great club! Why? Just so Rodgers can settle a personal vendetta with someone on the board!
Rodgers should NEVER have been allowed anywhere near Celtic again! Everyone’s first instincts were right! He’s toxic! But we all fell for his false promises a second time!
We were dumb enough to believe him!

I have to say Brendan Rodgers is going down in my estimation day by day. Any manager should be speaking out against these match day protests which only disrupt the players, some of whom must wonder what’s next. Yet he doesn’t and to make it worse he compares them to a Honda Civic? Astonishing lack of leadership and really disappointing.
I never thought I’d be saying this but yes get a new manager in and back him in the next window – those players are not as useless as they appear right now. They’re just getting demoralised.
