The Scottish FA have confirmed the officiating team for next weekend’s blockbuster Scottish Cup quarter-final between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox.
Don Robertson will take charge of proceedings, assisted on the touchlines by Ross Macleod and David Roome. Andrew Dallas has been appointed VAR at Clydesdale House, with Matthew MacDermid as assistant VAR.
Celtic return to Ibrox just days after the 2–2 league draw, but the atmosphere will feel markedly different.
Around 8,000 Celtic supporters will be housed in the away end, roughly 6,000 more than were present in the Premiership fixture, with Scottish Cup regulations allowing for an expanded visiting allocation.
VAR proved decisive in Sunday’s encounter. Referee John Beaton was sent to the pitchside monitor late on after a handball by Dujon Sterling, resulting in a penalty award in stoppage time. Reo Hatate eventually bundled home the rebound after his initial effort and follow-up were saved, rescuing a point for Celtic.
In truth, the visitors might have taken all three given the chances they created in a dominant second half.
With the officiating team now confirmed, attention will inevitably turn to consistency and control in what promises to be another combustible derby occasion, this time with a place in the semi-finals on the line.
