The Scottish Football Association (SFA) and Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) have issued a joint statement on the condition of the Hampden Park pitch.

The football governing bodies claim they are aware of the Hampden Park pitch following the weekends semifinals, and are working to ensure that the pitch is in the best possible condition for the Viaplay Cup final.

The Scotsman posted the full statement: “The Scottish FA and Scottish Professional Football League have today discussed ways in which we can mitigate the ongoing inclement weather to optimise the playing surface for the Viaplay Cup Final next month and forthcoming international matches at Hampden Park.

“The inclement weather conditions, allied to the fixture schedule being dictated by a winter World Cup, contributed to the underfoot conditions during two otherwise exciting and entertaining semi-final ties.

“Whilst significant work was completed in late October, enhanced pitch maintenance provision is being investigated as a priority to ensure the best possible surface is available for the remainder of the season, notwithstanding the sustained forecast for more rain and challenging weather conditions.”

With several important fixtures coming up at Hampden Park, including the cup final next month, it is essential that the issue with the pitch is quickly rectified.

It is encouraging to see that an investigation has already been launched by the SFA and SPFL, with the hope that the necessary improvements are made.

The subpar conditions for last weekend‘s Scottish Cup matches were far from ideal, and the situation needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Celtic even had discussions pre-match on how to approach the game due to the poor surface. The decision was made to go about their usual game as much as possible. The pitch was clearly cutting up and the rain relentlessly falling during the match all contributed to what was a very forgetful semi-final.

The bhoys have the chance to retain their League Cup trophy against their bitter rivals in February, let’s hope the pitch is conducive to Ange’s attacking style.

  1. SFA Investigation.
That’s all they’ll do: no one will be held responsible, no lessons will be learned, and we’ll be in the same position further down the line.
A shower of useless, power mad, and self interested individuals.
