CHARLIE NICHOLAS has hit back at Neil Lennon after the Celtic manager said the former footballer did not speak for him.

The former player trashed Celtic’s transfer window after the deadline had passed even though the general consensus was the window went very well for Celtic.

Nicholas also said Neil Lennon wouldn’t be happy behind the scenes after the window to which the Celtic manager didn’t take kindly too.

Speaking to Mail Sport and cited by the Scottish sun, Nicholas branded Lennon’s comments ‘shambolic’ and believes he’s in the right fit not being a media sheep.

“I will make no apologies for having a go. I have never been one of these social media sheep.
“Neil is quite happy to tell all the fans and his social media that Charlie has been slagging Celtic off for years.
“Last week’s piece had complimentary issues towards Neil and I have been supportive of him since he has come back.
“I thought his adaptation of Brendan Rodgers’ team was exceptional and he did a good job.
“The bottom line is that we will fall out. We have always done that but we have always shown respect to each other when we meet. I don’t take anything personally. It is the job.
“I would love to be more warmly welcomed by Celtic fans but I accept my opinion is one that has been portrayed by some elements of the club as the enemy because they feel that my criticism is harsher than any of the others.
“Over the years, it has been and it has been the same for my other former club, Arsenal. Arsenal have got it far worse than Celtic through the years. I don’t get any kickback from Arsenal.
“It was a shambolic attempt by Neil to have a go by saying I would not be happy if we signed Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Yes, I have been slagging Celtic for years but so have most other pundits worth their salt, while we all know who their glove puppet pundits are!
“Celtic are champions and deserve all the credit that comes their way domestically. My judgment comes down to this: Is the team improving every season and how are they performing in Europe?”

In reality, Charlie is trying to stay relevant – this site has always come down hard on the pundit but we’ve also gave him his due if we thought he’s made a valid point. The transfer window rant was the former player reading the room badly. Even the more negative pundits who cover the club were dumbfounded Nicholas chose to be so down on Celtic’s dealings.

He’s treating himself as some sort of media martyr when in reality it’s an attempt to keep his name in and about the media – job done in that respect.

Celtic fans are hypercritical of their club at points but this guy even goes too far for most of them.

  1. Mr Nicholas should know better than most that we have enough anti Celtic bigots ready to put us down, so I’m a little surprised at his reaction to Neil’s response to his nonsensical view on our transfer window dealings? Maybe he should think of a new job prospect and apply his talents elsewhere, maybe as a writer for a once well known (like he once was) programme JACKANORY! HAIL HAIL.

  2. Ok he was a good player with Celtic but got found out in the bright lights of London. What did he actually achieve over his career in football , Nil. He does slag of any Celtic person , the fans seen him coming , journalism is not for him as a pundit he has as much muscle as a slug on steroids.
