CHRIS SUTTON hasn’t pulled any punches when it comes to the Green Brigade this afternoon after their Neil Lennon out banner went viral on social media.

The Celtic supporter’s group unveiled the banner with a statement which you can read here.

It has split opinion among the support with many classing it as an own goal because the board won’t respond to those kinds of antics so it’s pretty much wasted. Others think it was fair game and reflective of a large portion of the support.

Chris Sutton understands the frustrations of the Celtic support and even spoke about some of his Celtic supporting friends thinking Neil Lennon should leave but they are respectful of the overall contributions Neil has made to the club.

Sutton thinks the banner shows a ‘despicable’ lack of respect and branded the group a ‘bunch of idiots’ for the stunt which serves nobody.

“I thought that the stuff with the banner outside the stadium was just a bunch of idiots, I really mean that because what good can it do?” Chris Sutton told RecordSport.

“What positive does it do? We all love the game, we all have different opinions about things.

“I’ve got a lot of Celtic supporting friends, they have texted me saying that ‘Neil Lennon has been a great servant to the club, great player, he’s had great success as a manager and it is time for him to move on’ in their opinion.

“And you know what, I understand that and I understand the frustration with a lot of fans out there at the moment. They’ve had it so good for a long, long time but you know the stuff, the banner outside the ground this morning, there was a sense of entitlement and just spoiled.

“I don’t want to swear but I just don’t get that, I don’t get the upside of that. There wasn’t one. It’s totally disrespectful to a guy who, the manager who has served the club with aplomb.

“I’ve had an association with the club for a long, long time. I actually think what happened outside the ground is shameful, unnecessary, unwarranted.

“I feel sad for Neil with this as much as anything. I actually do, what he has actually given to the club. You know he has toiled for years and worked hard as a player, given his absolute all, his heart and soul to Celtic Football Club and then for people to treat him like that.

“If you want him to go then fine, that’s an opinion but I think that there is a way to do it and to do it with a banner outside the stadium as they did this morning, I thought was despicable.”

Celtic are flying out to the Czech Republic today to prepare for their matchday four tie against Sparta Prague. It’s hardly been ideal preparation for the bhoys with everything that’s going on. A win tomorrow night would give us all a much needed boost but the real wins that matter are on the domestic front.

Speaking about the banner, Neil Lennon thinks hysteria is playing a part.

Has the banner gone too far?

  1. If this was reverse psychology by the so called ‘political wing’ of the Hoops fans. Then maybe the should have got their shorter element to stand apon a box or step. To make this a more level (sic) discussion. Go back to beating your tin drums and shouting sea shanties at the top of your voices. Until your voices break and you grow a more mature vision of what Celtic means TO all the Celtic support.
    NOT JUST YOUR CURVA.
