SIMON FERRY has told Go Radio he heard the deal to bring Brighton and Republic of Ireland defender, Shane Duffy to Celtic ‘could be happening’.
There has been social media chat all week but what started as nothing more than a fan rumour has blossomed into a very interesting transfer story.
Duffy is surplus to requirements at Brighton and they’re open to letting the Irishman go.
Celtic are in the market for a no nonsense defender and Shane fits the bill. As Ferry admits, he’s not the sort of ball-playing defender we’ve seen at Celtic Park as of late. He’s a strong and physical defender who commands his area. If Neil Lennon goes 3-5-2, Shane is the perfect teammate for Jullien and Ajer.
? SF: “He’s not great on the ball, I’ll be honest, you could probably tell him that yourself. But aggressive, big, strong, wants to defend – I think that’s exactly the type that Jullien and Ajer need next to them.”

Celtic would likely be looking to bring the defender in on-loan. Brighton would be looking for a sizeable permanent fee, with the club having already shelled out close to £10m, use of the loan market would be prudent.
We’ll be keeping an eye on developments.
