Former Celtic player and current Belgian assistant manager Shaun Maloney believes it is ‘impossible’ to say what the future of the club holds at this stage, without a proper structure in place.

As quoted by the Daily Record, speaking on last nights Sportscene Maloney currently thinks it’s hard to judge where the club could be next season with all the uncertainties. However, he does believe that the appointment of a technical director could help that.

When asked about the size of the job facing Dominic McKay, Maloney said – “It’s really difficult to say.

“I kind of feel like there is going to be structural change. And maybe the new CEO coming in, it might not be down to him to make every decision.

“They might bring in a technical director which alleviates the pressure from him.

Until that structure is actually in place then it’s impossible to make these decisions.

“Now, just from the team’s point of view, I think they just need to close that gap between Rangers as much as possible and obviously fight for the Scottish Cup if that does go ahead.”

I think Shaun Maloney’s reaction does just sum up the thoughts of the majority of Celtic supporters right now.

The club is in a very weird place, being out of the title race in January in what was potentially one of the biggest seasons in the club’s history and now in the summer face a massive rebuild.

Going forward, the most important appointment now is either that technical director or director of football position to take the club into a more forward-thinking future.
