SHAUN MALONEY was named as the Hibernian boss after the club sacked Jack Ross before the Edinburgh side faced Celtic in the League Cup Final.

However, after a run of poor form left Hibs in the bottom half of the division, the former Celtic player was controversially sacked.

Granted, the results didn’t look promising, but he deserved more time at the club to turn things around. After all, he didn’t make the mess; he inherited it. Maloney wasn’t given enough time to implement his style and bring his own players to the club, only having one opportunity in January to do so.

Hibernian have since appointed former Sunderland boss Lee Johnson to take over the club.

Maloney has been linked to the Dundee job after just a few months out of his first managerial job.

The newly relegated side is on the hunt for a man to replace Mark McGhee after it was revealed his six-month contract would not be extended.

He will go head to head with Jack Ross, who is also in contention for the job. The Courrier reports that the club have narrowed the candidates down to the two former Hibees’ boss’.

This means that Gavin Strachan is no longer in the running for the vacancy, despite being the favourite at one point.
