Last night was a true captains performance from Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor.

Before the game, there was a lot of doubt surrounding the 28-year olds involvement due to the head knock he sustained in the Scottish Cup victory over Alloa a few weeks ago.

However, I think there was a feeling amongst Celtic fans that there was no way that McGregor was going to miss this one, even with a nasty facial injury that would potentially rule a lot of players out of these sorts of games.

Not Callum McGregor, though.

The Celtic captain stood out and was counted when he was needed the most, putting in another captains performance, helping his side to an emphatic 3-0 win over Glasgow rivals Rangers.

Footage caught after the game shows the impact that he even had on the opposition, as he harrowed and pressed Rangers defender Borna Barisic whilst giving the left-back his thoughts in the process.

Although McGregor has stepped up to be a leader within the side in the past, the midfielder has truly come into his own this season after replacing the departing Scott Brown as club captain.

He may not be as much of a shouter or screamer as Brown (even though this footage might disagree), he does a lot of his talking with the ball and his ability as a player, which continues to get better with age.

Celtic fans received a massive boost when they saw the number 42, including in that starting 11, and I’m sure many of his teammates received that same boost too when they heard he was starting.

The midfielder continues to show exactly why he was the perfect choice to become the next captain of this club.
