Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan wants to play against Celtic in a testimonial.
The midfielder is in his tenth season with the Owls and wants to face his boyhood club to celebrate.
Now 34, Bannan has made over 400 appearances for Wednesday, contributing to 97 goals along the way.
He is a living club legend and wants his special occasion to be marked with a match against the Celts.
When recently asked if he wanted a testimonial, Bannan couldn’t hide his excitement.
“Hopefully in the long run I get one of these days,” he said (The Star).
“I’ll look forward to it. Sticking around this long, it’s nice to have something like that at the end.
“I’ll look forward to mine if it happens.”
Although he has just under a year left on his current deal at Hillsborough, the veteran has no plans to hang up his boots yet.
A testimonial, though, could be in the works, and Bannan would love to play Celtic in it.
The midfielder was asked who his dream opponent would be.
“I think everybody knows,” he said (The Star).
“If not them (Celtic), then maybe I’d have one of my old teams like Aston Villa or something but I’m not bothered to be honest.
“As long as all my home fans are here and my family, if you get a good turnout and your family are here then it would be great.”
Bannan came through at Aston Villa after joining them from Celtic as a teenager in 2004.
He then had loan spells at Derby, Blackpool, and Leeds United before permanently joining Crystal Palace in 2013. A temporary spell at Bolton followed before Bannan settled at Wednesday in 2015.
The Scotland international’s testimonial is due next year, and perhaps his club and Celtic can get together and organise a celebration of his respectable career.
