KELVIN WILSON has pulled no punches when it comes to talking about one of his former teammates. The Englishman was part of the Celtic side which famously beat Barcelona 2-1 on Celtic’s 125th anniversary.

However, things were not all rosy between Kelvin and the match winner Tony Watt before or after the game with the former Celtic defender admitting he didn’t take to the young lad for a variety of reasons.

Speaking about his former Celtic teammate to Simon Ferry’s Open Goal, Kelvin believed Watt was too big for his boots in the Celtic dressing room and did not start off humble when he was brought up the first team.

“He’d come in like he was the main man and it wasn’t traditional. As a young lad, shut up, sit there and clean my boots.

“He was a bit cocky and stuff so I was just trying to bring him down to earth a little bit.

“When he scored the goal, the world’s at his feet really, wasn’t it?”

“Lifestyle yeah, he could’ve done better with that side of it.

“He just never…I think he thought when he scored that goal, that was it.

“That was his way to get anything – ‘I scored the winner against Barca’.

“But he’s a good lad. He’s a bit dippy at times. Strong boy, quick, surprisingly really good feet.

“For some reason it didn’t happen for him, did it?”

Tony eventually left Celtic after failing to nail down a spot in the team; the player has played for nine clubs since the goal against Barcelona.

However, this season the striker has been doing very well at St Johnstone and looks to have turned the corner in his career. It’s unlikely Kelvin’s comments will be received well by the former Celtic striker, but I doubt he’ll be bothered that much.

Celtic take on Tony Watt’s new side tonight in the SPFL hoping to stretch their advantage at the top of the league.

  1. Tony was doing the business before his move from Airdrie. When he moved, he buckled down and did Watt came naturally (Stick baw in the onion bag like Sheridan) His contibution play (Like Sheridans) was a bit poor but improved. Both left under a cold when strapon shouted at them, and so did Neil Lennon who called them both ‘non players’ as they both thought they were Lubo and Petrovs love children. Tony will probably score against Celtic, but not the winner. Or will he. No I’m talking pish, I doubt he will get the chance.
