It has been a long way back to full fitness for Celtic midfielder Mikey Johnston and as he begins to get more game time, the effort he has put in has been incredible.

When Celtic players are away from the limelight, we tend to forget about them and have no real idea how they’re getting on or what they’re doing to get back into the team

Simon Ferry gave us an insight into the dedication Mikey Johnston has to succeed as a player and be the best he can.

Speaking on GoRadio, the Open Goal pundit revealed he lives next to Mikey and when he heads back from his media duties most nights he sees the Celtic winger out on the public football pitch trying to hone his skills.

Mikey is a very gifted and skilful player but it takes hard work and dedication to be able to do what he can.

Simon Ferry admits it’s no accident Mikey has got to where he has in the game so far.

“For any young kid listening, here is one for you.

“Mikey Johnston stays the street down from me with his mum and dad. I drive home from here at 7:30-8 at night, and Mikey Johnston is out in the public parks practicing.

“He’s up with a ball at the Stepps playing fields smashing balls about. So there you go. That’s why he is where he is obviously, isn’t it?”

Mikey could see game time against Dundee Utd on Wednesday before being considered for a place in the Glasgow Derby. There’s no doubt he offers something different for this Celtic side, it’s just how Neil Lennon wants to utilise the Celtic star going forward.
