SCOTT SINCLAIR is player Celtic support know very well. His time at the club was an outstanding period of dominance under Brendan Rodgers.

The Englishman was a revelation in his first season and his stats continued to be impressive long into his Celtic spell.

Scotty loved a goal in the Glasgow Derby and was famously part of the side that beat the Ibrox club 5-1 when they were promoted to the SPFL. Joey Barton was the man doing all the talking before that game. His attitude was he was coming in as the best player in the Scottish League and quickly found out it wasn’t the case.

That day Celtic skelped Barton and his team 5-1 on their way to an invincible treble. It wouldn’t be the last time Sinclair would be involved in a five goal derby day either.

Barton when back down south with his tail between his legs and coffee machine in hand well before Celtic had raised the Scottish Cup aloft in May. This was the season they thought they were going to win the league.

Fast forward to now and Joey Barton is now managing Bristol Rovers, the side Scott Sinclair is currently playing for.

Going from foes to friends.

Asked about the rivalry, Scott wasn’t going to rub it in about his bosses time in Scotland but he stated facts, we were simply just better than them!

Cited by Record Sport, Sinclair said “We did play against him once. I think it might have been the 5-1. I haven’t mentioned it yet. I might keep that quiet. We were better than them at the time, simple as that.”

The former Celtic star added: ‘(It’s) Probably the happiest time of my career. Swansea was great, but until you play for Celtic you don’t understand what it really means. From the moment you put on the shirt you feel what a massive club it is and that never leaves you.

Sinclair had a real love affair with Celtic that still goes onto this day. His time at the club came to an end quietly when Neil Lennon saw no value in playing the Englishman.

To be fair to Neil, Scott had not been at his best, but there was a frustration he wasn’t being allowed to get back to his best at times.

The Englishman will always be fondly remembered as one of the top players in the invincible treble season.
