Scott Sinclair stole the headline yesterday as Celtic defeated Hearts in their opening SPFL match. Scoring a match winner on your debut will ensure that you are in the limelight and rightfully so.
But a massive part of yesterday’s story wasn’t about the attackers but the defenders – specifically Kolo Toure.
The Ivory Coast defenders move to Celtic was met with cautious optimism. Some eternal moaners out there unhappy that Celtic signed someone seemingly on the back end of his career. For anyone who thought Kolo was just brought in to make up the numbers surely got a helping of humble pie yesterday as the defender looked solid at the back.
He was calm, composed and measured in his approach and made sure he did his job well. He had a young defensive partner in Eoghan O’Connell who continues to impress, both of them together put in a top performance.
It can’t just be myself that enjoys the dynamic of an older, more experienced defender alongside a young hungry apprentice. This should certainly be the defensive pairing going forward until Rodgers can assess all his players when they return from injury.
The more game time Kolo gets the sharper he will become and if he and you O’Connell keep playing like they did yesterday then Sviatchenko should be worried.

True people will always moan don’t like to give players a chance but agree Toure did show everyone he was the boss
