SKY SPORTS have confirmed that their bid to have the rights to the Scottish game has been accepted. The broadcaster is describing the day as ‘significant’ as they extend their contract with the SPFL until 2029.

It’s a deal that will see Sky broadcast more games in the country, and clubs will receive more money than they do with the current deal. The contract begins in 2024. Sky will show 60 games a season but are allowed to show extra if they wish.

Hopefully, we will be able to watch Fran Alonso’s side on the channels this season, with the broadcaster picking up five matches.

A pleasing aspect of the deal is that the Women’s games will also be televised. The game has been growing season by season, and it’s set to get bigger and better. Sky can start showing women’s games from this season. The broadcaster also is the title sponsor for the Women’s League Cup.

Instead of going to each ground four times, from 2025, the company can show five games from each ground. This should hopefully mean games other than the derbies and the Glasgow team’s away days are shown on their channels.

PPV will stay in Scotland, with clubs allowed to sell five home games a season using the streaming service.

  1. Bad deal, and no one is interested in watching Fran Alonso’s team. The paltry crowds at their matches with free entry is testament to that woke fallacy.
