We reported this evening, Mark McKenzie looks to be heading to Genk even though the American defender was high on the list of Celtic targets.

Sky Sports man, Anthony Joseph has been close to this deal since the summer and has confirmed tonight there has been no fresh bid from Celtic.

However, the journalist does claim Celtic had the chance to sign him for less than the reported £3.6m Genk fee in the summer but the club chose to go for Shane Duffy.

McKenzie fits Celtic’s transfer model perfectly. A young, talented player who can be developed, become a first team star and then sold for a healthy profit.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing because many were clamouring for the Shane Duffy signing to add experience to Celtic’s back line but bagging McKenzie in August could have proven to be a great piece of business.

As it stands, the player looks likely to head to Belgium with Celtic not forthcoming with any bids at present. Even if the club were to go back in for Mark, it would cost them considerably more.
