DAVIE PROVAN has aimed a big dig at Peter Lawwell in his SunSport column by aiming a sarcastic apology at the Celtic chief executive.

The Sky Sports man didn’t miss the mark with his criticism of what Peter earns on a yearly basis at Celtic Park. Having noted he had recently spoken about comparing Lawwell’s wages to three times what the governor of the Bank of England pockets, the former Celt corrected himself.

“LET me start with an apology. Recently I claimed Peter Lawwell was on three times the salary of the governor of the Bank of England.”

“Turns out I was wrong. The new governor earns half-a-million a year. Lawwell trousered seven times that amount last year. Forgive me, Peter.”

Provan has never hidden his dislike of the chief executive and some of his practices at the club. The Ex-Celt critical of the balance between running Celtic as a business and a football club.

Davie went onto say:

“Money is still pouring into the Bank of Celtic like a waterfall. The next cheque heading Celts’ way could be a sell-on fee for Moussa Dembele if his move to Chelsea goes through.

“On top of the £25m banked for Kieran Tierney, it’ll help keep the boardroom lights on.

“But if Lawwell knows anything about football he’ll recognise Celtic are in a bit of bother.”

Celtic lost out to their Glasgow rivals in their final game of 2019 and have to reflect on that as they get set to take to the training field in Dubai.

The annual jaunt to the middle east is a mini pre-season for the players after they got a bit of time off after the Glasgow Derby defeat.

Celtic are back in action in just under three weeks time and by then we’ll see how much the board is willing to back Neil Lennon in this transfer market.
